Julia’s Residents Enjoy T-Giving At the Grange
The historic Grange held its annual Thanksgiving feast for residents of the Julia Greeley Home and other charitable organizations on Nov. 13.
We’ve come to know the Grange through the generosity of Shannon’s Hope, the ministry for pregnant women, with whom we share a residence as “two ministries under one roof.”
Three new residents of the Julia Greeley Home, Rae, Ann and Amanda, joined us that very day, not expecting to find themselves by nightfall at a tradition-packed feast that included endless rounds of turkey and stuffing, plus hearty vegetables and desserts. The lavish tables of food, groaning under platters of meat, tubs of gravy and trays of cupcakes and cookies, prompted one resident to quip, “I wonder if we’ll be eating like this every night!”
In fact, the Grange has been overseeing feasts, large and small, for Coloradans since the mid 1800’s. It was founded as an “Urban-Rural Fraternity” dedicated to providing economic well being to food producers from both the farm and city.
The name? Early English farms were called “granges.” There are three Grange locations in Colorado, and we were blessed to be invited to the Grange in the Denver metro area.
