Challenges and Gratitude in July 2021
Hello Friends of Julia’s,
Your support and your prayers have inspired the Julia Greeley Home and this summer, they are doing the same for me.
On May 1, the great feast of St Joseph the Worker, I landed in the hospital with a heart ailment. There is no question in my mind that God wants to work through my illness to, first, shine a light on St. Joseph, the patron of the Universal Church. Second, and just as important, I’d like to give our own Julia Greeley some work to do!
After all, the pope has declared this the year of St. Joseph, and as far as Julia Greeley is concerned, she is moving steadily toward canonization and her intercessory prayers for healing are powerful before God.
You have a role to play in this, too. Since the Julia Greeley Home was founded more than seven years ago, you have been interceding for us too, whether you know it or not. Your monetary gifts, and your prayers, along with so many words of encouragement, have allowed us to grow and help more women find peace and self sufficiency with each passing year.
In every form it takes, your support is fighting back against the government-fueled notion that homelessness is a permanent condition. It is not. In fact, the opposite is true. Our residents are proof that when their God-given dignity is emphasized, lives are restored and miracles happen.
My recovery this summer has been a challenge but I’m getting there, and my spirits are high. Being sidelined for a while has given me the time to reflect on God’s power and the work He has given each of us to restore lives, both from heaven, and on earth.
God bless you all,
Father Regis Scanlon OFM Cap
